A
strained calf muscle that kept Jeff Saturday from finishing the
Indianapolis Colts' 23-20 win at San Diego Sunday night probably will
force him to miss at least the next three games.
Team
president Bill Polian said on his Monday night radio show that "a
conservative estimate" has the three-time Pro Bowl center
missing between three and four weeks. The Colts visit the Cleveland
Browns Sunday afternoon. Saturday suffered the injury in the first
quarter at San Diego.
While
Saturday mends, rookie Jamey Richard will fill in. The seventh-round
draft pick started the first two games of the season when Saturday
was sidelined with ligament damage to his right knee.
Richard
had little time to prepare himself for extensive duty against the
Chargers, which included facing 348-pound defensive tackle Jamal Williams.
"Jamey
got himself ready to play even though he wasn't planning on playing,
and that's what you have to do as a backup player," Dungy said.
Guard
Ryan Lilja remain on the physically unable to perform list and faces
a third operation on his right knee.
Today was
the deadline for the Colts to add Lilja to the active roster. That
won't happen, but the team is optimistic he will make a complete
recovery and be ready for the 2009 season.
Indianapolis
Colts offensive guard Ryan Lilja will miss the rest of the season
with a knee injury, the team announced today.
Lilja
missed the first 11 games this season. He was eligible to return to
the active roster through Monday, but now he will remain on the
physically unable to perform list.
Lilja
will have surgery to correct the injury.
The
fifth-year player from Kansas State started all 16 regular-season
games last season, and 43 of 50 between 2004 and 2007. He missed all
of training camp this season and never was activated.
