August
20, 2008
The Indianapolis Colts have
signed Tyrice Thompson, adding the 6-foot-5, 220-pound rookie tight
end to their 80-man roster.
Thompson was undrafted and
originally signed with Tampa Bay in May. He played college football
at Arizona State where he caught 16 passes for 296 yards and one touchdown.
To make room for Thompson, the
Colts released linebacker Danny Verdun-Wheeler, who was signed August 7th.
Colts add
defensive linemen to roster
August 19, 2008
The
Indianapolis Colts re-signed Dan Davis on Tuesday, trying to fill a
sudden need along the defensive line.
Davis, a rookie
defensive tackle from Connecticut, signed as an undrafted free agent
in April and was released in June. Coach Tony Dungy said Monday the
Colts were looking to add someone after losing four defensive linemen
to injuries during Saturday night's 16-9 victory at Atlanta.
Starting end
Robert Mathis sprained his left ankle, rookie end Marcus Howard, a
fifth-round pick, has a strained oblique muscle and Curtis Johnson,
an undrafted free agent, injured his shoulder. Another undrafted
rookie, Eric Foster, hurt his calf.
None of the
players practiced Tuesday at the Colts' first workout inside Lucas
Oil Stadium, and Dungy said that at least a couple were likely to
miss significant practice time this week.
To make room on
the roster, Indy released Antonio Smith, a second-year defensive back
who spent all of last season on injured reserve.
Colts release Tala Esera
August 2, 2008
The Indianapolis Colts waived former University of
Hawai'i offensive lineman Tala Esera today, according to an
Associated Press story.
Esera, a guard, was signed by the Colts in January. He
originally was signed by the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free
agent in 2007.
Indianapolis re-signed kicker Adam Crossett, who was
waived July 25, to help Adam Vinatieri rest his right leg. Esera was
waived to make room for Crossett on the 80-man roster.
Harrington joins Colts for NFL
preseason work
Former Mexico High School two-way
football star and University of Missouri standout linebacker Dedrick
Harrington hopes to come to the rescue of the Indianapolis Colts.
With up to five linebackers
unavailable this week, the Colts have signed Harrington, who had been
released late last month from the St. Louis Rams training camp.
The 6-foot-3, 250-pound Harrington
spent time on the Colts' practice squad last season and also has
worked out with Dallas in hopes of continuing his gridiron career at
the professional level.
After losing to Washington in
Sunday's Hall of Fame Game, the Colts had Monday off and a relatively
light day Tuesday before going through a pair of full-team practices Wednesday.
The Colts were to practice twice
today, then once Friday morning before traveling to Carolina to play
the Panthers on Saturday night.
Running
back Clifton Dawson has been released by the Indianapolis Colts
The
five-foot-10, 212-pound Toronto native was entering his second season
with Indianapolis. But when Dawson arrived at camp he found a surplus
of running backs on the Colts roster looking to become the club's
backup behind incumbent Joseph Addai.
Former
CFL star Kenton Keith also returned for his second season with the
Colts, who also re-signed Dominic Rhodes in the off-season and
drafted former Michigan star Mike Hart.
Barring
injury, Addai and Rhodes are expected to fill the top two spots at
running back. They helped lead the Colts to a Super Bowl title two
years ago.
Keith, a
former Saskatchewan Roughrider, was Addai's backup last year. But he
ran into legal troubles in April when he was arrested on a charge of
criminal trespassing after allegedly refusing to leave a nightclub
parking lot.
The Colts
released Dawson prior to their 23-20 exhibition overtime loss to the
Carolina Panthers on Saturday night.
Dawson
signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent following the 2007
NFL draft. He was among the club's final cuts but ended up signing
with the Cincinnati Bengal's.
He was
released by Cincinnati shortly afterwards but re-signed with the
Colts two days later. Dawson appeared in 13 games with Indianapolis
and the Bengal's last season.
The
Toronto Argonauts own Dawson's CFL rights.
Dawson
started 39 of 40 games at Harvard and finished his college career as
the Ivy League's all-time leading rusher with 4,841 yards. He also is
first overall in career rushing touchdowns (60), career touchdowns
(66), career points (398) and career all-purpose yards (6,138).
Dawson
was a unanimous first-team All-Ivy League selection as a freshman,
becoming the first league player to earn the honor. He finished with
1,187 yards rushing that season, the first Ivy League freshman to run
for more than 1,000 yards.
The Indianapolis Colts
claim C Doug Datish
off waivers from the Falcons
Friday 25 July 2008
The Colts have claimed
24-year old center Doug Datish off waivers from the Falcons.
The Colts have been collecting interior offensive linemen this off
season so it shouldn't surprise anyone that the Colts' have claimed
Datish. Datish missed his rookie season due to injury but he
has the size at 6'4?, 302 pounds that the Colts' like. This was
a nice low risk/decent reward move for the Colts. |
